In January, NCAA Division II delegates voted to change the initial eligibility criteria for college freshmen, including an increase in minimum core course GPA from 2.00 to 2.20, as well as the introduction of an SAT/ACT sliding scale based on NCAA core course GPA. The use of a sliding scale is new for DII and will be different than the scale used by Division I.
These recent DII changes will add yet another layer of challenge and complexity to the previously increased Division I standards currently impacting freshmen and sophomores. The four classes in high school this fall will now be under three different sets of NCAA DI/DII initial-eligibility rules.
