Alumni weekend 2019 began with the 21st annual Niekro Classic Golf Tournament. A record field of 41 teams teed off under sunny skies at the Belmont Hills Country Club. New champions were crowned in both the open division and Bridgeport division. Jack Matkovich, Zach Azzallion, Bruce Thompson, and Harry Mowder, won the open division, while Larry Zink, Tom Kellas, Bill Glitch, and James "Dubie" Dailer, won the Bridgeport division.
Festivities continued that evening with the 6th Annual Alumni Social Time at the Skyliner (former Bridgeport Eagles). The event was moved to the upstairs ballroom of the Skyliner, due to the event outgrowing the downstairs. A record turnout of over 250 Alumni were in attendance. DJ Bill Talik, class of 1981 was on hand playing tunes from the past and also holding the class roll call. Alumni Association held a 50/50, Chinese auction, and a raffle for a $50 dinner gift card, along with selling Alumni memorabilia. The High School Band set up a table to help raise funds for new uniforms, and had a successful sales evening. New this year was a selfie booth with our new Bridgeport Alumni backdrop. Gordie Longshaw donated 2 seats from the auditourium at the old school, that Alumni sat in to take pictures at the selfie booth. All in attendence had a great time, visiting with fellow Alumni and remembering their days at dear 'ole Bridgeport High.
The weekend's festivities ended with the 135th Annual Alumni Banquet with around 235 Alumni, spouses, and invited guests in attendance. Karrie Mellott Puskas (Class of 1994) served as Master Of Ceremonies, Stephanie Conway Pettit '95 lead the attendee's in the Pledge Of Allegiance.Gordie Lonshaw '65, gave the Invocation. The class of 2019 was officially welcomed as Bridgeport Alumni, with Samantha Wojick officially responding for the class. Alumni Schlorarships were presented to the following Seniors: Noah Ricelli and Lauren White.
Five distinguished Alumni were inducted into the Bridgeport Alumni Association Hall Of Fame: Sam Lofton Sr. '41, James J Krob '47, Raymond Cook "53, Colonel Bruce B Johnston '69, and P. Mark Thompson '69. Kelli Krob Hilt (Class of 1994) delivered the Key Note speech. Roll call was held with Allen Glitch responding for the class of 1969. Jackie Bodor-Hickman '94 and Tenille Matusik Saling '94, led the Alumni in the singing of the Alma Mater. Lauren White (Class of 2019) gave the Benediction to conclude the evenings program. Alumni spent the remainder of their evening dancing to music of DJ Bill Talik (Class of 1981), who played tunes from the past.
